I’ve been ask to explain why we didn’t have many love bugs this spring, well my uneducated guess would be we’ve had a wet spring and if our showers deep coming in the evening there wont be any this fall, if you remember the dry years are when they are the wourst.

Dog days are here already and will last until Sept. This is the time when the Dog Star shines which is Sirius. This is the time when the song birds do not sing, the reason they don’t sing is because they shed their plumich and are not pretty to look at. Sometime in the early to mid Sept. they will sing again.

The deadly fire ant effects all life in the southeastern U.S.A.. This little pest now has a preditor that will consume him. “The Phorid” fly is his name. He was brought into this county by universities of seven states and it is a proven fact that each fly will kill 200 to 300 fire ants in its lifetime and they have been released in 11 south eastern states so far. Lets hope!

Andy Koundourakis and Jake Jeter won the Thursday nite big fish tournament with 4.68 lbs. on top water frog.

Sometimes life around the water gets real complicated, this week while outside watchin the sun come up, I saw a wading white egret shoot his bill out and pluck something from the weeds he was wading on, he jumped and took to wing with a 2 foot snake in his mouth. I have seen a blue heron ketch one on 2 or 3 occasions.

Many bass was taken this week twixt showers. The top water bite is very good for those that know when and where to go. However the bream again over power the bass as a meat fish this week, many limits were taken on crickets and a few on wigglers.

The fish tale of the week comes from Wayne Barwick, who sez he caught 2 and a half hybreds on a Jiggen spoon. I ask him to explain, he landed the first 2 outright and the third one came off at the boat and lay on top of the water he flounced out of the water hit the side of the boat back into water, then he flounced again up in the air and fell inside of the boat. 2 and a half hybreds!!!
