“Lake Turning Over” has been mentioned to me here lately, “Some ask when is gonna happen?”. Well, it’s done happened in some parts of the lake. Our lake, unlike most other lakes, does not do it all at the same time. With 2 big rivers and a spring fed creek feeding it, there is a lot of different places where turnover is timed different. It happens in the spring and in the fall. Makes fishen tough for a while.
The early 80’s before Hydrilla, a North-wester blew 3 days and nites. The temp staying around 35°, on the 4 day, the Crappie (Specks) died by the hundreds. This was in the Spring Creek flats where they had come out in shallow water to lay eggs on brush tops still standing.
This past Saterday, opening day of Duck Season, 13 boats had launched and gone by 5:30am. Of those boats, 5 people fell in and got soaked. A few ducks were killed, however, 2 boats came in late Saterday and had had a good shooting.
The Tallahassee Hawg Hunters fished out of Wingate’s with Dallas Johnson winning with 17.1 lbs. of Bass. Mr. Jim Hughey had Big Fish with a 5.10 pounder.
The Moultrie Hawg Hunters also fished out of Wingate’s with “0” luck. It was during this tournement that many batteries went dead after an hour of use. It was discovered that the batteries were made in Mexico. Tain’t cold in Mexico they saw.
One “Recepee” for turkey soup Thursday afternoon coming up. Boiler of water “big enough to cover bones”, 1 can of tomato sauce, diced tomatoes or fresh tomatoes, take bones out and bring to a rolling boil, drop in enough regular grits, let cook until done. Salt and pepper to taste.
