Bream and Shellcracker came in all week long on Crickets and Wigglers. Some very fine ones. We all look to May to fill up our freezers with them frozen on water. Most are not fooled. Some even save enough Crappie Row and other Row to have two or three messes of them along with grits.
Several folks took Crappie this week on Jigs, however, just when they promised me 20 gooduns, he caught 4 little dinks. That's the way the ball bounces some times. By the time you read this the moon will have fulled and we'll be sliding toward dark nites. With this in mind I will give you the signs of "the Old 12 Days." They say June clear, no clouds, no rain. July clear, chilly, no rain. August clear, no rain, chilly. Sept. clear, no rain, chilly.
That's far enough for now, and we here at Wingate's got 1 3/4 inch of rain out of the storm that past last week.
The Backwoods Outdoors Tournement was put on Saterday with great results. 75 boats fished with 33 limits taken. 1st Place went to Therman and Zorn with 20.17 lbs., 2nd Place went to Hamric and Smith, 3rd Place went to Key and Merritt and on down to 15th Place. The Big Fish award went to Mr. Byrd with an 8.28 lbs. Just a rough guess of course, but we estimated $18,000 worth of gas was ridin in those boats.
The Rose City Bass Club fished out of Wingate's this weekend with Donald Culverson of Bainbridge, GA coming in first with a 2 day total of 19.62 lbs., Jackie Alderman of Bainbridge, GA coming in second with 12.62 lbs. and Charles Brinson of Ochlocknee, GA coming in third with 12.16 lbs. Donald Culverson had Big Fish with a nice 6.1 lbs.
I have been told by some fine Fishermen (Clear Water) that Gamma line is the best for Cristal Clear Water.
Darrell Culverson of Bainbridge, GA with some of his winning catch in the Rose City Bass Club's tournament held at Wingate's Lunker Lodge this weekend.
