Let’s begin with a tribute to a great man, by this I mean Mr. Jim Stone, on his book just out, “There’s a Stone Store Near You” by Mr. Jim and Lou Merritt. They are on sale at the Book Nook and at Wingate’s Lunker Lodge. I have read it and it is a masterpiece of good reading.

I’m tickled pink the way our athletes are acting in China. They have acted like true ladies and gentlemen, especially Kobie Bryant and the young Mexican American wrestler who wrapped the American Flag around himself and kept it around him. I have just read Tough Choice’s story about Jackie Robinson and found out so many things about him I did not know. He excelled in every sport that UCLA had to offer, that is a lot of sports. In my early days most everyone that went to the Olympics came from UCLA.

Word has been passed on to me that Spotted Bass has been caught upriver from Faceville Landing on “Little Georges”. These are the Bass that has taken over Lake Martin north of Montgomery. These Bass are so fast he will pick up a worm, shake it and spit it out before you can strike back. Good fun to catch.

We also hear that the GA DNR had so much heat from “Hunters, Fishermen and Boat Owners” they decided to keep the money in GA, instead of paying a bank in Missouri to handle the sales of licenses.

Bass did real good the first of the week before Fickle Fay tore up the lakes fishen. Keith Harckleroad had several up to 4.5 on Buzz Baits, Tyler Bush/Stan McCollum had 5 Bass up to 5 lbs. on Soft Plastic.

The Jack Wingate Thursday Night Big Fish Tournament hosted by the Hydrilla Gnats Bass Club out of Wingate’s Lunker Lodge was won by Clint Brown with 5.5 lbs. Fickle Fay had enfluenced us by then and only 10 boats showed up. At this riten, Saterday PM, 2 houses has been damaged in this area by trees on them or on the lines going into the houses. Our electric and phones has been out for a couple of hours. We have had great coolers of Shellcrackers and Bream show up all week long, on Crickets and Worms.

If one wants to catch them, a pile of Catfish in this cloudy water and near fool pool. Go to your Tackle Store, ask for a “Shad Dart”, take a Spinner with 4 lbs. Test Line, go to Jim Woodruff Dam or a dam near you, cast it along the concrete walls and hang on. Catch 8 or 10 Shad or Skip Jacks, put them on ice, go to where you find movin’ water, use a Carolina Rig with Big Lead to keep it still in moving water, cut Shad and Tip Hooks, you’ll be rewarded.
