According
to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, while both male & female
Reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male Reindeer drop
their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to
Mid-December.
Female
Reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the Spring. Therefore,
according to every historical rendition depicting Santa’s Reindeer,
every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl!
We
should have known, only women could drag Santa all around the world
in one night and not get lost. Lots of truth in that.
For
those that mite need to know, “Media Bass” will launch
at Wingate’s January 19th, while “Fishermen For the Hungry” will
launch at Wingate’s on January 26th, then the Stren Series
will launch at the Boat Basin in Bainbridge on January 31st. In
other words, we gonna be busy!
It
seems at this time, the Rings and Blue Bills are moving on south
and Canvasbacks and Pintails are moving in. At the present
time, there is millions of Coots and thousands of Ducks rafting up
in the open water. When it’s warm as it is this Saterday,
Ducks don’t get right. They pay no attention to decoys
or calling.
We
had a nice 15 ½ lb. Blu-Cat taken and a 5 lbs. Blu on line
bait.
Several
good Bass was taken on Traps when the Lake was
near Full Poole, running it over the grass, one 6 and 2 at 5 lbs.
Crappie
again has been the “good” fish this week, many were taken
on Jigs. They seem to be taken the Plain Jigs this week. Several
limits was brought to the dock.
It
will be interesting to see what the signs of the old 12 days tell
us about the weather this year.
