Seminole Ramlin's October 1, 2006 What a week of outdoor happenings, first a bear and 2 cubs were seen crossing US 90 last Monday. Then we got the picture of the 13 inch long Shellcracker from Mrs. Bush. That was a whopping big Shellcracker. Then the first flights of Geese came into our boat basin after being gone all summer. We are luckie for all of the above and unluckie for the fact that every sinus weed known to man is now blooming jist about to shut some folks eyes slam up. Another 10 ft. 8 in. Gator was taken by a young man from Fayetteville, GA. We have had 2 deer taken with bows and arrows. One 6 point buck lost due to darkness and woods so thick the man was crawling on hands and knees. The other a fine young doe that will make good eatin. Those of you that have lost the Bream, need to take heed to what I’m saying. Use Crickets and lite tackle with cork about 4 ft. from the hook and lead. Move along the outer edge of the grass line letting the Cricket slide down the edge of the grass. Most times it will never stop moving. A boat reported 3 limits this past Saterday using the above method. Now for those who have lost the Bass, you mite want to look at lily pads with Buzz Baits or the Yum Frog run real fast over the pads. One such catch ended up with a limit (10) with one at 9.4, one at 7.2, one at 5.1 with the balance at 3 lbs. and down. The big Flathead Catfish are showing themselves in certain parts of the lake, coming to the top taking food off the surface of the lake. Now we have learned that the Tilapia (Nile Perch) is an awful hungry fish and will take over fish ponds and lakes and can be grown in northern lakes. Here
is a picture of Mike Sloan, guide and owner of Wingate's with two nice
Bass he caught on Sunday. For more of Jack's writing see his books, available only at Wingate's
