Seminole Ramlin's

October 17, 2004

Computers, computers, computers! How we have become slaves to these creatures. It came to me full force the other day when a biznis started to close out a work shift and the 2 dollar belt broke on the receipt tape. The off going clerk was not able to find one to check out with, however, the on coming clerk solved the problem with a 2 cent rubber band. She says, “Works just as well and lasts just as long.”

The shifty eyed folks in Atlanta ain’t jist got shifty eyed, they been at it a long time. Some time in the 1850’s, while the seat of Georgia government was in Millidgeville, GA, a representative from Cobb Co. introduced a bill to have it moved to what is now Atlanta. It’s been called Peachtree (or Pitch Tree), Marthasville, Termanas and later Atlanta. It failed as the folks voted on it. Some years later it was introduced again and failed again by only 4 votes. But in 1868, with the hunger and destitute area around Atlanta needing help with money from the state, one of the shifty eyes stuck it in the bill at the last minute and it passed to be moved on to Atlanta. A sorry state of affairs.

The best fishing story this week comes from a fisherman, who was on the grass wall Lizard fishen, had two good Bass, a Jack Fish come outa nowhere, tucket and the line parted, retied and went at it agin and an awesome strike developed rite under the trolling motor and away it went taken drag. He told his wife to grab the net, he had a hoss. Bout that time, out from under the boat and into the air was a 3 foot gator and it pitched the Lizard back to him.

The Specks is coming on strong from what everyone is telling me. That’s coming from many different sources, the Hooche, the Indian Mound, the Dam Area, the Flint, upper and lower.

Catfish is next. Seems as a lot of Cat is being taken on Ice Box Catabas and Stink Bait. If you use a long shank hook and thread 3 or 4 worms on it just off the bottom, you’ll do good.

Deer Season (Gun) opened this past Saterday with lots of folks in the woods. One man sed he would need 7 deer to feed his family a year. That can easily be done this year if he’s in the rite woods. Once the meet is put away, they’ll pick up rods and reels and go back to fishen.

Deer hunting, duck hunting and football does cut into a man’s fishing. Course, nurse maiding chillen on their off school days does too. You jist got to git out and do something, the weather is jist rite.

Some Coots on the lake as well as Teel. Lots more will show up soon. We hope the Canvas Backs will stay with us this year.

This picture is of JW Goodman, who's parents and grandparents own Wingates, who spent the afternoon today fishing with his dad, Wes Goodman.
