Seminole Ramlin's

May 9, 2004

Sitten at the coffee table last week a WWII First Class Seaman made this statement, “You think you have trouble stopping smoking?” Several who were puffen sed, “Yes.” He sed, “Let me tell you about stopping smoking. During the war I was on a tanker, aviation fuel, 130 octain fuel. When the old tub was loaded, she was a huge bomb. You could smell the gas fumes before you got to the gangway. That smell alone would stop you from smoking. No need to blow your ownself up.”

The “Ducks Unlimited” forecast is out and it is bleak. Only a few spots in the north has had snow and rainfall to keep the breeding grounds wet. Some are blaming “Ducks Unlimited”, they should stop and think what would it be without the D.U. works and projects. Maybe this year, the Feds, short of funds, will stop dumping tons of corn for the waterfowl up north on the Flyways.

For those who have kids who like the outofdoors, you may get in touch with the GA DNR and buy a CD that has 31 frogs in color with each one making his sounds. A great gift for kids. You may also mark your calendar for June 5th at 9:00am for Wingates Annual Junebug kids Fishing Contest.

The Cairo Trap Co. in Cairo, GA has a trap that will reportedly catch the Armadillo. We at Wingates has trapped 14 in 2 weeks. It works.

We note that the USA is getting a lot of flack about the hazing of some prizners. Heck fire, I’ve only seen with my own eyes 2 initiations in the hazing field. One was a FSU Fraternity, the other was when I wuz put through into the Shriners. The FSU was tough on them boys, so was the Shriners. Don’t give in Mr. Bush, steer your course, keep your crew together, you are on the rite road.

Shellcrackers and Bream are just about any direction you go from here. Worms, crickets and soon fly rods.

This past week, 3 Bass over 10 lbs. has past over the dock at Wingates. Some springtime Bass Fishing. The Tallahassee Hawg Hunters went like this: Jerry Cipher 12.6 lbs. for 1st, Ken Olson 11.6 lbs. for 2nd, Jimmy Elsberry 9.6 lbs. for 3rd. Big Fish was 4.2 lbs. While the Valdosta Bass Busters had Sammy Marchant at 14.07 lbs. Jerry Westberry at 14.01 lbs., then Benny Colson at 12.12 lbs. He also had Big Fish at 6 lbs. A good tournament.

Benny Colson, 6 lbs.
